Robbie Williams has opened up about his awkward and “rude” encounter with Cher, saying it left him “headbutting the wall” afterwards.
The ‘Angels’ singer took to his official Instagram account on Monday (May 27) to share his recent encounter with the pop legend while they were both at the airport. He was introduced to Cher by a mutual friend and he revealed that his social awkwardness kicked into full gear.
He wrote: “I wanted to make the interaction as painless as possible for her. Looking for a natural break or ending in the conversation I made my excuses to go sit down. This was not for me but for her. Alas, I don’t think Cher had finished talking which made my exiting our brief interaction seem rude. Of course, I will think of this moment periodically for the next 25 years.”
“*In head when I’m beating myself up at 4am in the morning * ‘And remember that time you were rude to Cher?’” Williams shared that the ‘Turn Back Time’ singer was on her way to St. Tropez and that he went on to assume that she was heading over there “I guess to shop?”
“As I was leaving, I blew a big kiss and said ‘Buy well and Barter, make sure you barter’,” he wrote. “Cher looked confused and I went to the toilet mainly to headbutt the wall, lamenting my stupidity.”
Elsewhere, Williams previously revealed that he has “written loads of songs” and is feeling “full of purpose and loving life”.
He made the comments during an interview with Virgin Radio, where he insisted that he is feeling more “ambitious” than ever before, and has written a heap of new material.
The comments shared by the former Take That member arrive after he shed light on his history of self-harm and depression, and encouraged people to be more “careful” about the comments they make towards those in the public eye.
In other Robbie Williams news, it was confirmed that his dance side project Lufthaus – which sees him join forces with Flynn Francis and Tim Metcalfe – would be making their UK live debut at Creamfields 2024.
More recently, he has recalled the occasion when a badly-received joke on X/Twitter made him reconsider his use of the social media platform
