Lizzo has given fans a preview of her new musical era, declaring that she is “truly coming to gag throats” with her upcoming releases.
The singer streamed live on Twitch on Friday (February 14), where she introduced a clip of herself crying as she looks into the camera. As her tears slowly dissolve into laughter, Lizzo ends the clip staring down the lens, while the date ‘February 28’ flashes on the screen.
“I want to introduce to you guys, the newest piece of content from the new era,” she said to introduce the clip. “I have been working on new music for last two years. I took my time and I did it right”.
“The new era begins today,” she continued. “I truly am coming to gag throats.”
This came one day after she appeared to draw a firm line under her previous era, which revolved around her fourth studio album ‘Special’. “It’s the end of a very Special era,” she wrote on Instagram on Thursday (February 13). “This album was my strut back into society after a hard 2020 & 2021. I wanted to help people turn up the music, turn down the lights and get a feeling they’ll be alright.”
“I wanted to remind people of how they may be broken but still perfect in their own way. 12 songs, 68 shows, 14 countries, 3 continents and nearly a million voices later we saw our specialness. We got through it together. I’m proud of the accolades, the Grammys the Emmys the Platinum plaque… but I’m most proud of the Legacy I’m leaving this world – lyrics that uplift you, music w real instruments, a reminder to dance and that it’s okay to cry… and high vibrations! I thank God every day that this is my job, and I don’t take it lightly.”
A follow-up post also saw her spray painting “Bye Bitch” in red paint over the ‘Special’ album artwork, which you can watch above.
Elsewhere, Lizzo recently celebrated reaching her “weight release” goals, telling her followers: “Let this be a reminder you can do anything you put your mind to.”
She also broke her silence in December on the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against her in 2023, claiming that she “did nothing wrong”. She had been sued by three former dancers who claimed to have been subject to sexual harassment and a hostile workplace environment while on tour. She denied the claims and said the situation had left her contemplating quitting the music industry.
